If you have children, you probably already know just how much fun it can be to take those important family videos from time to time. However, many friends and relatives will actually shy away from watching such videos because they do not feel like being strapped to a chair to watch 20 minutes of the same child playing with a toy over and over again. To avoid this, there are some simple tips and tricks that you can use to make some truly wonderful home videos that all of your friends and family are sure to enjoy for years to come.
One of the most important things that you should remember when you are looking to make family videos is that you really do not have to spend a ton of money on equipment. There are many affordable, wonderful cameras on the market today, including those built right into your phone that you can choose from. These days you don't necessarily have to buy a standalone camera. Most new smartphones have high quality cameras built right in and are available at a moment's notice.
If you are like most people, you may not have a ton of technical skills that will allow you to do all kinds of fancy editing of your family videos. A good way to get the same effect is to take shorter clips at a time of different people at certain events. For example, when you are taking a family video of a birthday party, it is not necessary to capture every single minute of the present opening ceremony. Take short clips for certain gifts being opened so that you will keep the video interesting instead of getting caught up in an endless amount of dead and boring footage.
Editing of course is an option for putting together different clips and ordering them to suit your tastes. There is a lot of free or low-cost software available to help with this. You can have a lot of fun putting in music or sound effects, include transitions, fades and other effects. If you're adventurous, look into superimposing text or graphics, doing green screens and more.
Another thing that you may want to remember is to scan the area that you are recording and remember to take video of certain items that your family had at the time. If you are outside of your house filming, capture a few seconds of the car you currently own. In the years to come, it may be quite fun to look back on the family car that you caught on video in the past. The same goes with your pets. Make sure that you get a few minutes here and there of your precious four-legged friends on your family videos as well. This can make for some wonderful remembrances in the years to come.
And of course if you have children make it a tradition to take videos of them at different stages so you can pull up these memories whenever you wish. Even the worst family videos are sure to be family treasures for years to come.
