Have you ever thought of putting together some type of family history map or family tree? If you have, but just do not know how to approach it, there is a great way that you can get your children involved for a fun family tree project. This is a wonderful way for you to spend quality time with your children while learning about all of the rich history of your family. Children just love to work family tree projects such as this not only to spend time with their parents, but also because it can be a lot of fun to do.

The main thing that you want to remember about mapping a family tree with your children is to have fun. It can be pretty interesting for everyone in your family to hear different stories about their relatives. This is a great way for your children to find out more about relatives in their family tree instead of them just being a name from their past.

When you get started on such a family tree project, you want to research a little bit about the history of your family. Jot down information on your family background and where they came from. If you have any interesting stories that you may remember hearing from your elders during your childhood, it is a good idea to make notes on these as well. Stories such as these can be wonderful to share with your children while you are mapping your family tree.

For the actual family tree mapping, you can pretty much use just about any setup that you have readily available. It would be best if you can lay everything out on a large table that you can dedicate solely to this project. When it comes to materials, you can be very creative with your family tree. Many people like to start out with a large poster board where they can begin their design. You can either start with a tree design and then have the family members listed on different branches or you can set it up as a type of grid.

Once you have decided the route you would like to take, the fun of mapping and sharing stories can begin. Have fun and let your children be as creative as they wish. For example, if your family came from Italy, maybe they can place stickers of pizza or the Italian flag around the family tree. The possibilities are endless, and you are sure to be glad that you have taken the time to work on a wonderful family tree project with your children.
