When is the last time that your wife went out with her girl friends? Once you’re married, sometimes it can be hard to make time for friends, even the girls that your wife used to spend so much time with when you were just dating. Although it can be tempting to think that you don’t need friends after marriage, the fact remains that your wife actually needs to attend regular girls’ night out in order to be truly happy. The following guide will help you understand why your wife needs a girls’ night out on a regular basis and how to leave room in your relationship (and schedule) for your wife to attend girls’ night out.
Why Your Wife Needs a Girls’ Night Out
There are many reasons why your wife needs to include a regular ladies night out in her schedule. The primary reason is because everyone should have friends outside of their marriage; while your spouse should be your friend, they shouldn’t be your only friend in the world. Having friends - especially girl friends - is an important way for your wife to maintain her social relationships outside of her spouse. With her girl friends, your wife can talk about topics you might not be interested in; she can indulge in getting her nails done or going dress shopping; she can talk for hours with friends about the latest news. In other words, she can be herself without feeling self-conscious in front of you, her husband.
Another reason why your wife should go out on a girls’ night out is so that she and her friends maintain their friendship. Once friends start to get married, it can become too easy for them to fall out of touch. With a regular girls’ night out, however, they maintain their friendship without having to constantly struggle and juggle schedules in the hopes that someone might be free.
How to Leave Room for a Girls’ Night Out
There are several key ways that you can leave room for a girls’ night out for your wife.
The first thing is to make sure that you don’t monopolize your wife’s time, particularly the weekend nights when “girls’ nights” are more likely to happen. If you have a regular date night, you need to let your wife know that it’s okay to skip a date night or arrange for a make-up date when there is a girls’ night out that falls on the same day.
Next, encourage your wife to go out with the girls! If your wife expresses that she feels guilty about going out without you or she’s not sure if she should really go, you need to encourage her. Let her know that you think it’s great she goes out with the girls and that you think spending time with friends is important.
Remember: a girls’ night out is important in order for your wife to get social interaction outside of your relationship and to ensure that she keeps up her friendships. You can do your part by encouraging your wife to go out on girls’ nights out!
